This beautiful host plant is a better behaved version of common milkweed, though it can still spread and create a nice patch. The summer blooms are fragrant. It tolerates many soil types including the clay soil typically found in middle Tennessee. It prefers full sun, and can handle drought thanks to its deep taproot. Milkweeds are typically a bit late to emerge in the spring, so if you do not see it pop up right away, give it a bit more time!
